BPI Experts provided Utah Transit Authority (UTA) with valuable tools and principles for developing our strategic plan and cascading the strategy to meaningful strategy, goals, and measurements at the employee level.  BPI Experts provided training and facilitation based on the Shingo model for operational excellence that has give our Operation organization the knowledge of the Lean principles and tools that are improving our efficiency, customer service, quality, and employee engagement.  Our Operations General Managers are better aligned strategically and now share a common management system focused on operation excellence.  Our managers are becoming more effective leaders through the application of the Shingo model principles and application of daily management, leader standard work Gemba walks, coaching, and timely employee feedback.

 

BPI Experts taught us to see the waste and information deficits that exist in our daily work processes and to engage our employees to simplify our processes, increase job satisfaction, and deliver internal and external customer satisfaction.  We are adding visual organization and visual scoreboards to the workplace to simplify our workplace and provide employees with meaningful feedback to help them self-manage and be more effective during their work day.  The improvements that our employees have implemented up to this point are energizing our work force and are improving the effectiveness and efficiency of our organization.

Phil Ralphs volunteered his services to train the 8-104th BN (QM) of the US Army Reserve on continuous improvement.  Phil’s training sessions were engaging, provided practical examples, and were interactive.  He facilitates his training sessions with passion and he has a detailed knowledge of continuous improvement.

I have received many positive responses to the training that Phil provided.  During the training sessions, participants identified opportunities for improvement by apply the concepts of 8 wastes, flow, and information deficits.  Our group is already applying the concept of Plan, Do, Check, Act/Adjust by creating a visual scoreboard with meaningful metrics that establish a “Check”.  Several participants have already implemented improvements that will reduce lead time and improve customer satisfaction.  The results of Phil’s training have convinced the Battalion Commander, who was not available for the training, that the time was well spent and effective.  That is what I consider a true measure of a successful trainer.

 

Phil has been generous in volunteering his time.  He has helped our Battalion Headquarters see that here are opportunities that we can act on to streamline our work and make our time spent serving our country more enjoyable and effective.
